Action plan to tackle homelessness and first time buyers' schemes

Government hopes to help people in 'desperate situations'

An action plan has been published showing how the government plans to tackle issues around housing over the next year.

The Housing and Communities Board's plan has been published on the Tynwald Register of Business - showing a focus on affordable housing, homelessness and budgeting loans.

It secures funding for emergency shelter, Graih, over the next 12 months and promises to revamp first time buyers schemes - last updated in 2017 under a very different housing market.

Tynwald will be asked to 'receive and approve' the plan next month.

Housing Matters, a charity which supports people in times of crisis, says it supports the proposed plans.

The charity told Manx Radio: "Housing Matters agree that action is needed by the Government to address the Island's housing crisis.  

"We have been working closely with the Housing and Communities Board and welcome the proposals.  

"These proposals will help address some of the issues faced by our community."
