Ubuntu dumps CDs

Douglas-based Canonical software says it's giving up on CDs, in favour of broadband.

The company has offered its Ubuntu Linux operating system free of charge on disc for six years, but says high-speed internet connections mean more people download it for free than ask for CDs to be sent to them.

Canonical says it has shipped millions of CDs to every country in the world, but is now halting the service.

You can visit ubuntu.com to download the software for free.
