Coaches clock up volunteer hours

Island telecoms firm Sure has rewarded young volunteer sports coaches who've helped youngsters try out new sports - and stay fit.

Sure Isle of Man sponsors a sports' leaders training programme for 16-19 year olds held each year at the National Sports Centre.

Skills gained at the summer training camp are put to use by the teenagers, who then coach at schools, community clubs, Manx Sport and Recreation sessions and school sports festivals throughout the year.

Each term, Sure rewards those who've clocked-up the most hours coaching, with vouchers to spend in-store

During the autumn term, 42 leaders competed a total of 440 voluntary coaching.

Daniel Richardson (St Ninian’s High School), who was named overall Sure Sports Leader of the Year 2015/16, will be invited to the 2016 Isle of Man Sports Awards at the Villa Marina in March to receive an award.

Recruitment for the 2017/2018 Sure Sports Leaders’ Programme begins in February, when Year 11 students will receive presentations in school assemblies.
