Strong performance from easyJet

Low cost airline easyJet, which operates a six-days a week service between the Isle of Man and Liverpool, has reported a strong performance in 2011.

Results for the 12 months to the end of September show a reported pre-tax profit of £248 million, up 60 per cent from £154 million the previous year.

EasyJet says the figure was achieved despite a £100 million increase in unit fuel costs.

The company says the strong performance was due to firm control of costs, the strength of the easyJet network, and focus on customers.

Total revenue for the period under review was £3.4 billion, up 16 per cent from 2.9 billion.

The number of passengers carried on the easyJet network rose by just under 12 per cent, to 54.5 million, with those from outside the United Kingdom now accounting for 56 per cent of the total.

On-time performance improved by 13 per cent across the network, which easyJet says led to a six percentage point improvement in customer satisfaction.

The total return to shareholders for the year will be 45 pence per share.
