Steam Packet supports Children's Centre cycling fundraiser

Fundraisers tackling 400 mile challenge

The Isle of Man Steam Packet is supporting an off-Island cycling fundraiser organised by local charity, The Children’s Centre.

A group of fundraisers are travelling to France today, ahead of a 400 mile cycling event across the Route des Grandes Alpes - tackling several climbs from the Tour de France.

The Steam Packet will be supporting the charity event by offering free return travel to and from the Island.

The ride aims to raise over £20,000 for the charity, which provides community and family support services across the Isle of Man.

Steam Packet Managing Director Brian Thomson said: 'We are pleased to be supporting this important local charity with their overseas cycling fundraiser.'

'The funds raised will support many families across the Isle of Man, and we wish everyone taking part the best of luck!'

Jane Howland, Fundraising and Development Manager at The Children's Centre, says the charity is grateful for the company's support.

She says the charity 'works closely with more than 150 children each week, every week. Our services are independent and fully funded by public donations and fundraising events such as this.'

'Following the pandemic and a couple of challenging years, we’ve seen a significant increase in the number of referrals and the need for our services.'

'The funds raised from this trip will go a long way in helping us to support many more children, young people and families across the Isle of Man.'
