Lexicon marks 80 years on high street
One of Douglas's best known independent shops has celebrated a landmark date - as it continues to weather challenging high street conditions.
Proprietors of The Lexicon Bookshop on Strand Street have been presented with a birthday cake by town centre manager Oliver Cheshire, to mark the store's 80th anniversary.
Mr Cheshire saluted David and Moira Ashworth for "adapting successfully to changing customer practices and demands" while council leader David Christian congratulated the shop for helping create "a positive Douglas shopping experience".
The Lexicon Bookshop was first opened in September 1936 as a fee-paying library and was purchased by its current owners on Tynwald Day 1992.
