Shane's Chippy closing in Castletown

Douglas shop to remain open

A food outlet in the South of the Island is closing down.

Shane's Chippy in Castletown will only remain open until the shop has been sold.

The owner, Shane Butterworth, took to social media to announce the news.

He said with uncertain times ahead he needs to prioritise his family and mental health.

After years of working on-and-off at Port Erin Chippy as a youngster, Mr Butterworth took on the Castletown business in October 2019.

He told Manx Radio that after surviving the winter he had high hopes for 2020, but lockdown and the subsequent lack of any TT or Southern 100 trade made business challenging.

He said work was taking over his life seven days a week, and he needs to be able to spend time with his family.

The shop on Malew Street in Castletown is now for sale.

Shane's Chippy II on Bathurst Street in Douglas will remain open.
