OFT says 'don't be suckered by share scam'

Members of the public in the Isle of Man are being warned about a major telephone share-selling scam.

It comes after the United Kingdom's Financial Services Authority uncovered the biggest ever so called 'suckers list'.

It contains the details of more than 38,000 people who have already fallen for a scam and could be targetted by a sophisticated fraud operation.

The scam involves bogus traders using hard-sell techniques to dupe people into buying worthless shares.

The Office of Fair Trading believes Island residents may be on the list, and manager of the organisation's Advice Centre Andrea Tabb says anyone who receives a 'cold call' should hang up and not get drawn into a conversation:
