Northern firm holding annual charity event

Ramsey-based AFD Software will hand out a total of £250,000 to 50 charities this evening (Wednesday).

The company's annual charity event, at Ramsey Town Hall, will be attended by over 100 representatives of charities and other guests, including chief minister and local MHK Allan Bell.

AFD's 40 members of staff have nominated the charities to receive funds, three of which will make presentations at this evening's event.

Managing director David Dorricott says when AFD first began its annual charity event it almost matched the Isle of Man Government's entire overseas aid budget.

He says it is a great credit to Mr Bell, and the other members of Tynwald, that overseas aid has been increased, year by year, to what he calls 'much more respectable levels'.

AFD says its core objective is to 'generate profits and to use them creatively in the relief of suffering, the improvement of society and furtherance of the Christian gospel'.
