MD was 'hugely popular figure'

Tribute is being paid to Carl Gandy, the managing director of Nationwide International, who has passed away at Noble's Hospital.

Mr Gandy, who had been seriously ill for a number of weeks, is being remembered as a hugely popular figure within the Island's business community.

Chief executive of the Nationwide Building Society Graham Beale said: 'Carl brought a wealth of energy and hard work to his roles at Nationwide and he will be sorely missed by his peers and colleagues, especially those in Nationwide International and Nationwide UK Ireland. Our sympathies go out to his wife Julie and their five children.'

Carl joined Nationwide Overseas Limited in 1994 as business development manager.

He was promoted to manager of Nationwide Overseas Limited in October 1996 and became managing director of Nationwide International in 1997. More recently he established Nationwide's first European operation in Dublin, becoming head of international brands in February 2010.
