Local farmer ploughs digital pastures

Manx input to online conference

A Manx farmer has taken part in an internet video conference as part of an initiative to encourage rural communities to get active online.

David Cooil - who farms at Ballagawne, Ballabeg - joined in a Skype call between farmers from Northern Ireland, Republic of Ireland and the UK as part of a scheme run by the Northern Ireland Executive.

He is a previous winner of the Department of Environment, Food and Agriculture's Tomorrow's Farmer award, which recognises  forward-looking members of the industry.

David has already incorporated technology into his farming business, using an electronic ID system for his cattle.

This fits DEFA's vision to offer more online services in the industry, with farmers already able to register births, deaths and the movement of cattle online.
