Zero single use plastic policy backed by sustainability partners
Two-hundred and sixty-two new trees will be planted thanks to efforts of this year’s Parish Walkers.
It’s the same number of entrants who donated £5 to the Isle of Man Woodland Trust in lieu of receiving a t-shirt.
June’s event also saw a zero single use plastic strategy with collapsible, reusable, cups used for the first time – backed by sustainability partners IFGL and Mann Made Group.
Other waste was composted or recycled.
It means the amount of rubbish sent to the Energy From Waste Plant was reduced from 2.4 tonnes, in 2021, to 360kg this year.
Race organiser Ray Cox said: "It is important we do what we can to minimise the impact of over a thousand people taking part in such a big and such a long event.
"We will be working to see what other initiatives we can introduce in the future to help with this."
