Island may have avoided tax haven blacklist - Bell

Treasury Minister Allan Bell is cautiously optimistic the Isle of Man has avoided being placed on any tax haven blacklist, being compiled by the G20 group of nations.

According to an article in the Financial Times at the weekend, this has been achieved thanks to the 13 tax exchange agreements the Island has signed with other nations, including Germany, the United States and the Scandinavian countries.

Mr Bell, who recently returned from a trip to Brussels and who, this week, will be signing a tax exchange agreement with France, says nothing is certain but the prospects are good.

He outlined his assessment of the current position to John Moss on Mandate today (extended audio file):
