First day for FSA and its new head

Authority replaces FSC and IPA

Today has seen the introduction of the Island's new financial services regulator, and the first day in position for its new head.

Karen Badgerow is the chief executive of the Financial Services Authority, which replaces the Financial Supervision Commission and the Insurance and Pensions Authority.

She has moved to the Isle of Man from Canada to take up the position.

Ms Badgerow has over 20 years' experience in the regulation of deposit-taking, insurance and pensions business.

Her previous role was as senior vice president (insurance and risk assessment) at the Canada Deposit Insurance Corporation.

The CDIC is a Federal Crown Corporation, created by the Canadian Parliament, with responsibility for insuring eligible deposits made at banks and other financial institutions.
