College theatre drives new business stream

David Dawson with chefs at The Abbey

Rebranded venue to offer live public screenings

A treat's in store for theatre-lovers, with the opening of a new venue in the south of the Island this autumn.

King William's College has transformed its on-site theatre to offer screenings of live ballet, drama and opera performances as they happen on the London stage.

The Castletown venue has an audience capacity of 211, which the school says makes it the Island's largest theatre after the Gaiety.

Seating and facilities in what was called Big School have been upgraded. The venue's been rebranded King's Court Theatre and under the management of  David Dawson, will open on 3 September.

The live streaming programme for the venu'es 2015-2016 season will include performances from the National Theatre, Royal Shakespeare Company, the Royal Opera and Royal Ballet.

College has teamed-up with Ballasalla restaurant The Abbey to offer three course pre-theatre meals, available from 5pm on screening nights, at a cost per head of £30, including prosecco!
