BBC extends Isle of Man DAB coverage

The BBC is to site two new digitial radio transmitters in the Isle of Man, north and south.

The aim is to extrend DAB coverage for BBC national network stations to more than 97 per cent of the UK population.

The corporation is adding transmitters up and down the UK at a rate of more than three every fortnight between now and Christmas 2015.

In the Island, new transmitters will be erected in Ramsey and Port St Mary, making DAB broadcasts much more widely available. At present a single digital transmistter serves the Manx population, from Douglas.

Isle of Man radio stations are not available on a digital platform.

The Manx government decided not to support the roll-out of DAB on grounds of cost.
