Banking staff go ‘red’ for heart charity

Staff at Lloyds TSB Offshore Limited donned red to ‘kick start’ a major fundraising campaign and raised £232 for the British Heart Foundation (BHF) in the process.

Seventeen employees participated in the BHF’s official ‘Wear Red to Work Day’, in recognition of its Red for Heart campaign, which ran during National Heart Month in February.

The event was part of a two-year fundraising campaign with the BHF, which is the high street bank’s charity of the year until 2010.

The campaign, which hopes to raise £2 million, will see staff at offices and branches throughout the Island and the UK taking part in various fundraising activities, with all money raised helping to fund 15 new BHF heart nurses in communities where they are needed most.

Adrian Olsen, business development manager for Lloyds TSB Offshore on the Island, said: ‘At times like these, it is easy to forget about the things that matter. We pride ourselves in giving back to the community and charitable causes and therefore I am pleased we are supporting the BHF.’

Douglas Rouse, head of corporate partnerships at the BHF, added: ‘We are thrilled to have the support of staff at Lloyds TSB Offshore and events like this play an important role in helping to place more BHF heart nurses in the local community. Our BHF heart nurses empower patients, their carers and families to manage the condition effectively, maximising their heart health and quality of life.

‘Last year BHF heart nurses were able to help over 50,000 heart patients. We very much hope that in two years time, thanks to the generosity and phenomenal support of staff at Lloyds TSB, we will be able to place 15 new BHF heart nurses into communities to support even more heart patients and their families.’
