Antigua threatens WTO action

Antigua and Barbuda have threatened to haul America before the World Trade Organisation in the row over online poker sites.

The United States shut down Manx-based Pokerstars, along with the Antiguan Absolute Poker and Irish Full Tilt Poker last week, accusing them of bank fraud, illegal gambling and money laundering.

American officials seized the three domain names, and Antigua, which has fought a long-running battle with the United States over online gambling, says that amounts to interfering with trade which is lawful under international law.

Legal advisor for the Caribbean government Mark Mendel says the country is now considering taking more action at the WTO.
