90 customers face gas conversion disappointment

Manx Gas has almost completed the first phase of the Natural Gas Extension Project.

It's one of the Island's largest infrastructure projects, and during the pre-conversion survey period, engineers have carried out inspections at more than 6,700 homes.

Project manager Aidan Baglow says individual conversion kits are being ordered for all suitable appliances.

Problems with a 'significant' number of unsafe appliances have also been resolved during the survey.

The conversion project itself will begin in Ramsey at the end of February, when engineers will divide the town into sectors of between 75 and 100 properties to carry out the necessary work.

Manx Gas mounted a major publicity drive to encourage householders to book their survey appointments, but across the Island 90 customers have not yet been in touch, despite reminders being sent.

Manx Gas says without a survey those properties cannot be converted to natural gas.
