Cornish home for injured puffling found on Douglas beach

Cliff was nursed back to health on Island after sustaining injuries in 2022

An injured puffling who was found on Douglas beach after a storm in 2022 has found a new home in Cornwall.

Cliff needed urgent care after sustaining his injuries, and was nursed back to health at the Curraghs Wildlife Park.

His injuries meant he couldn't be released back into the wild, so the team at the park sought a permanent home for him where he could be with other puffins.

He's now joined a colony with 10 other puffins at the Cornish Seal Sanctuary.

🎄 A Cornish Christmas for Cliff the Puffin! 🎄 An injured puffling, found washed up and needing urgent care on an Isle of Man beach, has found a new home in Cornwall. 🐧✨ The young puffin was discovered on Douglas beach in 2022 after a storm. Since then, he has been nursed back to full health by the staff at the Curraghs Wildlife Park. 🏥❤️ Despite his recovery, he couldn’t be released back into the wild, so the Park’s team set about finding him a permanent home where he could thrive among other puffins. 🏡🐦 Thanks to their efforts Cliff has now joined a colony of 10 other rescued puffins at the Cornish Seal Sanctuary on the banks of the Helford River. 💖 Kathleen Graham, General Manager at the Curraghs Wildlife Park, said: “His journey has been remarkable. Some of our team even moved him into their flat to care for him! We’re delighted he’s found a perfect home.” Tamara Cooper, curator at the Cornish Seal Sanctuary, added: “Cliff’s condition meant he needed a safe haven where he can live comfortably and safely, which is where we stepped in, and he’s already fitting in well with his new friends.” Cliff’s story is an important reminder of the challenges faced by seabirds and the importance of conservation. A huge well done to both the Curraghs Wildlife Park and the Cornish Seal Sanctuary teams for their commitment to raising awareness and providing a sanctuary for marine animals like Cliff. 🌊💙 The Curraghs Wildlife Park in Ballaugh is home to more than 60 amazing species and will be open every day during the festive period, except Christmas Day and Boxing Day, from 10am to 4pm. 📸: Cliff in his new home in Cornwall! 💖 Visuals courtesy of the Cornish Seal Sanctuary and Curraghs Wildlife Park
