Orran Smith excels again in Spine Race

Nikki Arthur wins female class in Challenger North event

Manx athlete Orran Smith has excelled yet again in the latest edition of a grueling endurance race in the UK.

He's finished sixth overall in the 2024 Montane Spine Race - bettering his position of joint-tenth in last year's event - and finishing this year in a time of 94 hours 48 minutes 36 seconds.

That time is around ten hours quicker than how long it took Smith to complete the challenge twelve months ago.

The Spine Race gives competitors 160 hours to complete a continuous 268-mile course and as of last year had only a 51 per cent completion rate.

As well as crossing the line in 2023, Smith also raised more than £10,000 for Isle of Man MS Society in the process.

Elsewhere, fellow Isle of Man competitor Nikki Arthur put in a top performance to win the women's class in the separate Spine Challenger North contest.

Not only was she the first female finisher in 52 hours 17 minutes 19 seconds but also finished third overall across the men's & women's events

Arthur's time was nearly eight hours faster than that of her nearest female opponent.
