Jiu-Jitsu: Medals galore once more for Gracie Barra

Manx club takes another impressive haul in Wolverhampton

Manx jiu-jitsu club Gracie Barra have taken another impressive medal haul during their latest recent competition out in the UK.

The mixed team of junior and senior athletes from the Island squad took part in the latest Compnet UK National Tournament in Wolverhampton, claiming 19 medals which included six gold, five silver and eight bronze.

Among the performances, coach and competitor Hayley Curtis took gold in the Adult Featherweight division and now places third in the Compnet Global Rankings in the adult category.

Meanwhile, Jayden Mahey and Kye Greenhalgh took gold and silver respectively in their class with junior, Alan Greenhalgh also amongst the gold medals in his particular section.

The top performances kept on coming as junior Amelie Henson claimed gold with fellow junior Maisie Meban also impressing with a submission victory.

There was also a day to remember for Oscar Nation - competing in his first ever tournament - as he claimed a gold medal whilst juvenile blue belt athlete, Liam Blakemore took a default bronze in his weight class before taking silver in the Absolute division.

Gracie Barra Head Coach, Conrad Roberts, says the mixed squad has worked 'incredibly hard' in preparation for the event and have showed 'great resilience and mental fortitude.'
