O's hit five past Castletown to win final match of latest season
Onchan have won the 2024 Paul Henry Gold Cup following a convincing 5-1 victory over Castletown in the final game of the Manx football season yesterday (26 May).
Castletown opened the scoring at The Bowl in Douglas with five minutes played through Ash Egan before 'The O's' levelled through a deflected Josh Kennaugh strike.
With just over 20 minutes gone, Onchan then took the lead for the first time courtesy of Thomas Lancaster to go into half-time ahead.
Just four minutes after the restart, Onchan extended their advantage thanks to Tom O'Neill.
The Division 2 runners-up then added a fourth when Sam Cubbon netted in the 67th minute, just moments after Castletown had been temporarily reduced to ten men after Nathan Cardy was sin-binned.
In the closing stages, Onchan's victory was then further assured as Ste Whitley slammed home a volley unmarked from an O'Neill corner heading into the 90th minute.
The Paul Henry Gold Cup for the Onchan first team adds to their already-confirmed promotion back to the Canada Life Men's Premier League next season.
Elsewhere the club's combination side also recently secured the DPS Ltd. Combination Two league crown.
