Football: Oates and Cole scoop top prizes at FA Awards

Nineteen awards presented at annual ceremony in Douglas

Rhys Oates and Rebecca Cole secured the top player prizes during the Isle of Man FA Annual Awards held last night (15 June).

Peel striker, Oates, took the title of Canada Life Men's Premier League Player of the Year whilst Cole took the Women's Premier League Player of the Year accolade after a stellar season with Douglas Royal.

A total of 19 awards were presented during the event at Douglas Golf Club.

Among those, Corinthians player Erin Sells took the title of U21 Player of the Year whilst Onchan's Tom Creer was crowned U18 League Player of the Year.

Elsewhere the Masters Player of the Year title also went to an Onchan player in the form of Steven Priestnal.

Meanwhile, there was triple success for St Mary's as first team striker, Owen Canipa, took both the silver boot for his 36 league goals during 2022/23 as well as the DPS Ltd. Division 2 Player of the Year award whilst Ciaran Smith was named Combination Two Player of the Year.

Grassroots Coach of the Year (Male Pathway) - Gemma Bullock (Ayre United Juniors)

Grassroots Grounds Team of the Year - Andew Cain & Matthew Cain (Marown)

Grassroots Club of the Year - Douglas Athletic Juniors

Grassroots New Volunteer of the Year - Louise Shimmin (Union Mills)

Grassroots Young Volunteer of the Year - Ellan Preshous (Peel Juniors)

Grassroots Match Official of the Year - Robert Slinger

Grassroots Positive Football Environment - Juan Kinnish (Laxey)
