Cycling: Max Walker joins Astana Qazaqstan development

Move will seem him train and potentially compete alongside Mark Cavendish

Isle of Man pro cyclist Max Walker has joined the development setup of UCI WorldTeam Astana Qazaqstan.

The 22-year-old becomes the second Manx competitor to be part of the outfit this season, with Mark Cavendish currently competing in the senior squad.

As well as being part of the development team's campaign, it's expected he 'will be racing several races together with the UCI WorldTeam.'

Speaking on this latest venture, Walker says 'it's an honour to join such a prestigious and well-established group', adding he 'can't wait' to start getting experience at WorldTour level.

What's more, he describes the prospect of training and competing alongside Cavendish as 'an incredible bonus and privilege.'

Meanwhile, Astana Qazaqstan Team General Manager, Alexandr Vinokourov says Max impressed them during the squad's January training camp and 'here we can test him in the races to discover his full potential.'

Having left Trinity Racing at the end of last season, Walker joined Saint Piran for a brief spell in December 2023 before this latest move.
