Athletics: Sarah Astin smashes Manx half marathon record

The previous record had stood for more than 32 years

Isle of Man athlete Sarah Astin has smashed an Island record which had previously stood for more than 32 years.

Whilst competing in Seville, Spain on Sunday (29 January) she set a new Isle of Man women's half-marathon benchmark in a time of one hour 11 minutes and 40 seconds to finish 12th in the race overall.

Her time eclipses the previous official record of one hour 14 minutes 29 seconds set by Brenda Walker at the Great North Run in 1991.

This latest achievement means Astin now holds three of the Isle of Man senior women's road running records which also include the 10km and 10-mile distances.
