Athletics: Records broken during 2024 Northern 10

New benchmarks in three age groups set at Ramsey meeting

A number of Isle of Man road running records were broken during this year's Northern 10 event held last weekend.

Three new benchmarks across three age groups were set during the combined run and walk meeting in Ramsey on Sunday, 5 May.

Michael Garrett - who finished third overall in the running contest - set a new V50 record at 58 minutes 25 seconds, over one minute faster than the previous best set by Alan Postlethwaite back in 2000.

Elsewhere, Michael Loundes shattered his own V70 record in the run by over five minutes to bring it down to one hour, 12 minutes and 47 seconds and finish the race 29th overall.

Meanwhile, there was another record set by Joanne Schade whose time of one hour, seven minutes and 22 seconds confirmed a new V55 best whilst she also finished as the second fastest female competitor in the run behind Kirsty Barber.

Across both competitions, Neil Wade took top spot in the walk (one hour, 22 minutes & 49 seconds) ahead of Rachael Grehem in second (one hour, 40 minutes & 51 seconds) and Nicola Marshall in third (one hour, 50 minutes & ten seconds).

The run was won by Alan Corlett (53 minutes & 41 seconds) whilst second and third spots went to Joel Smith (58 minutes & 23 seconds) and Michael Garrett (58 minutes & 25 seconds) respectively.
