Woman ordered to keep 'big cuddly dog' under control

55-year-old given control order after Peel Headlands incident

A Peel woman has been ordered to keep better control of her dog after it attacked another canine during a walk.

Cheryl Osbelt, of Mourne View, admitted not having ‘Sacha’ the Caucasian Shepherd under proper control during an appearance at Douglas Courthouse.

The court was told Sacha was off the lead, and out of her sight, on Peel Headlands on 19 May when she became involved in ‘some kind of tussle’ with another dog which was injured as a result.

The 55-year-old is said to have walked away from the scene when the other dog owner tried to speak with her at around 6.30pm.

She later told police Sascha was a ‘big cuddly dog’ who ‘just wants to be loved’.

Her advocate told the court: “The dog walked away from her. Mrs Osbelt is aware she didn’t have proper control of the dog in the moment.”

Deputy High Bailiff Rachael Braidwood imposed a control order – which if breached will mean an offence has been committed – and ordered her to pay costs of £50.
