Unemployment up compared to last month

Latest Labour Market report published

Unemployment on the Isle of Man has increased.

That's according to the latest Labour Market report published by the Cabinet Office.

In September there were 256 people registered as unemployed - this increased to 286 by October.

Of these 186 were men and 100 were women.

This is four people fewer than this time last year, as 290 people were registered as unemployed in October 2022.

The unemployment rate for October 2023 is 0.6 per cent, remaining the same as the previous month - the unemployment rate is the proportion of economically active population registered unemployed.

In October 681 job vacancies remained at the Job Centre which is a decrease of 52 vacancies compared to September 2023. 

Of these, 64 per cent (434) were full time positions and 36 per cent (247) were part-time.

The sector with the highest number of job vacancies remaining was the medical and health services sector, with 130 unfilled posts.
