UK man excluded from Island after admitting vagrancy

33-year-old found in sleeping bag outside Sea Terminal

A UK man has been excluded from the Isle of Man for five years after being convicted of vagrancy.

Peter Thomas Woosey, of no fixed abode, was spotted in a sleeping bag outside the Sea Terminal on Tuesday (25 July).

He told police, who arrested him just after 10pm, that he’d arrived on the Island two days earlier to see a friend but didn’t have enough money for his return journey.

At Douglas Courthouse yesterday (27 July) the 33-year-old pleaded guilty to the offence.

Magistrates sentenced him to two days in custody, which he has already served, and imposed the exclusion order telling him: “I’m guessing that you’re wanting to get on the boat and go back home.”

Woosey will be given assistance to return to the United Kingdom at the direction of the chief constable.

Six people have appeared at Douglas Courthouse this week for vagrancy - you can find more details HERE.
