Young swimmers got into difficulty in Douglas Bay
Douglas Coastguard had to rescue two people who got into difficulty trying to swim out to the Tower of Refuge yesterday evening.
When teams arrived the young pair were said to be 'clinging to the furthest out day marker from the Peveril Steps and were in danger of being swept out into the bay by the strong currents in area.'
A rescue swimmer swam 150m out to them, while the Marine Operations Centre tasked lifeboats and a helicopter - though neither were needed.
The Ben-my-Chree also had to be held on her approach into the harbour.
The rescue swimmer was able to bring the two casualties back to shore where they were checked over and handed to the care of their parents who were 'advised on the dangers of what they had done' and told to observe them over the next 24 hours in case of secondary drowning.
Douglas Coastguard says: 'Luckily this incident had a successful outcome but it could have been a tragedy, we would advise for all parents to make their children aware of the dangers.'
