Summerland: "These are very difficult things for people to deal with" says CM

The chief minister says 'for the first time' he's been able to fully understand the 'enormity' of the grief that followed the Summerland fire.

This week Alfred Cannan issued an apology in Tynwald for the failings which lead to the blaze almost 50 years ago.

He told the court he hoped it would go some way to addressing the 'suffering caused by the wrongs of the past'.

The statement has been welcomed by campaigners who say they will continue to try and overturn a 'death by misadventure' verdict after the deaths of 50 people.

Mr Cannan says he understands not everyone will want to speak about the tragedy even now:
