Sentence set for son who was supplying cannabis for father

21-year-old's phone data showed he was dealing Class B drug

An Onchan man will be sentenced in June after admitting supplying cannabis for his father who was subsequently jailed for his part in a major drug trafficking operation.

Joseph Christopher Parker, of Hillberry View, pleaded guilty to being concerned in the supply of the drug - between November 2021 and September 2022 - during an appearance at Douglas Courthouse.

The court heard he was arrested in September last year, at his father’s home, on Fairfield Avenue, following the arrest of Christopher Parker.

Searches of the 44-year-old’s van, and property, had recovered 13.5 kilos of cannabis with a street value of £288,948 and more than £33,000 in cash; Parker senior was later jailed for five years.

Joseph Parker told officers he knew his father used cannabis and had knowledge of his links to an organised crime group; his phone was seized and analysed as part of the investigation.

Data recovered showed he was dealing small amounts of the Class B drug with the prosecutor saying the 21-year-old may have been ‘on the periphery’ of the wider group his dad was involved with.

Parker’s advocate told the court the drugs recovered from his father’s home had ‘nothing to do with him’ adding that he’d only been staying at the address temporarily.

A social enquiry report has been requested before Parker is sentenced on 14 June; he’s been bailed until that date.
