Search called off for survivors following cargo ship collision

Manx-registered Verity sank off German coast yesterday

The search for four missing crew members from a Manx-registered cargo ship has been called off.

German authorities have confirmed the decision as the time frame for survival has passed.

Officials say the water temperature at the time of the collision was around 12C.

Seven people were onboard the Verity at the time of its sinking.

One person has already been confirmed dead while a further two were rescued alive, with divers searching the water for the four missing - who it was initially hoped may be alive and trapped in the vessel on the sea bed.

Nearby boats, including a P&O cruise ship helped with search efforts on Tuesday.

Late yesterday, the Isle of Man Ship Registry released a statement saying its 'thoughts are with the seafarers that sailed onboard the Verity, their families, friends and loved ones'.
