Developer to receive taxpayers' cash to transform brownfield site
Plans to use taxpayers’ money to support a developer to build on a brownfield site in Port Erin have the backing of one of the area’s MHKs.
Tevir Properties Limited has approval in principle to receive funding from the Island Infrastructure Scheme to build 38 apartments on the site of the former Ocean Castle Hotel.
The scheme provides money to help develop areas that have been unoccupied or empty for many years.
Rushen MHK Michelle Haywood says this could provide new income in the form of additional rates and support for the local economy:
A planning application for the site will be lodged within six months – up to 10 percent of eligible costs, excluding land, will be payable upon completion of the development.
