'Procedural error' caused beef packaging issue, says Isle of Man Meats

Products were recalled after wrong 'use by' dates printed

The Chair of the Board of Isle of Man Meats says the company 'very much regrets' having to recall more beef this week but insists it acted in 'the best interest of customers.'

A number of products that made it to the shelves of Tesco on the morning of 31 January had to be recalled due to the wrong 'use by' date being printed on them.

The company says it was due to a 'procedural error', and assures at no time was any meat 'contaminated'.

'It's a very disappointing moment for the team in the plant and the management.' - Chair of the Board of Isle of Man Meats, Nigel Davis.

An investigation into the exact cause of the fault is underway.

Mr Davis told Manx Radio that an experienced technical auditor from the meat sector was employed last month to review all the meat plant's production processes:

The products Isle of Man Meats recalled this week are as follows:

- Manx Beef Diced; Beef - Batch 19625 - Use By 05.02.2024 and 07.02.2024

- Manx Beef Minced; Beef 300g - Batch 19625 - Use By 05.02.2024 and 07.02.2024

- Manx Beef Minced; Beef 500g - Batch 19625 - Use By 05.02.2024 and 07.02.2024

- Manx Beef Minced; Beef 750g - Batch 19625 - Use By 05.02.2024 and 07.02.2024

- Manx Beef; Beef Carvery Joint - Batch 19625 - Use By 20/02/2024

These products, it says, were delivered to retail customers on the evening of the 30 January and withdrawn before noon on the 31 January - they had only reached the shelves of Tesco by that time.
