Policy disagreement on sewerage rate increase

Critics didn't misinterpret rise, says MHK

An MHK has issued a rebuff to the chief minister over his comments about those who opposed an increase in the toilet tax.

Howard Quayle's said some backbenchers had 'misinterpreted' the government's stance over the 6.5% sewerage rate rise.

Ramsey MHK Lawrie Hooper was among 10 members to vote against the increase, passed by Tynwald earlier this month.  

After the debate, Mr Quayle suggested opponents had failed to see the inflationary rise was a better deal than that planned by the previous administration.

It will come in to effect from April next year.
