Planning approval for 'BallaLockie' to help teen injured in car crash

19-year-old Lockie due to return to Island in September

The family of a Peel teenager who was injured in a car crash two years ago have received planning permission to extend their home so they can bring him back to the Island.

Lockie Kirk had to be airlifted to Aintree Hospital in January 2022 after the incident near Peel.

He’s currently receiving treatment for his injuries at a rehab unit in Liverpool but it's hoped he'll be returning to the Island in September.

In preparation for the 19-year-old’s return his family are keen to extend their home so that Lockie can maintain as much independence as possible.

Plans have now been approved and the Manx community is rallying to help the Kirk family complete the build.

Lockie’s family have described the response to an initial appeal for help as ‘amazing’ and say they intend to make contact with everyone who has offered assistance so that they can ‘get cracking’.

"It's a tough time after Christmas, and everyone's stretched at this time of the year, but it seems people are still willing to help." - Daniel Kirk

Lockie’s dad, Daniel Kirk, told Manx Radio work on 'BallaLockie' will start soon:

Anyone who can help the Kirk family should email ballalockie@gmail.com – you can also find more information HERE.
