Petition launched against proposed motorhome parking rules

More than 1,300 signatures so far

A petition has been created calling for an end to proposals to make it an offence to park large vehicles, such as motorhomes, on speed restricted roads overnight.

Under the plans a £60 fixed penalty notice could be issued from the police, local authority and the Department of Infrastructure staff if you are found parking overnight between 6.00pm to 7.00am Monday to Friday and all day Saturday and Sunday.

The department has asked local authorities for their opinions on where the restrictions should be.

The petition, which has gained over 1,300 signatures so far, is asking people to contact their MHK with concerns.

Its creator, Keith Pringle, says it will affect many vehicle types including work vans, some 4x4s, SUV’s and campervans.

You can find the petition here.
