Petition hopes to save Cummal Mooar residential home

Site to close within the next two years

A new petition hopes to save Cummal Mooar residential home in Ramsey.

It's after it was announced the site will be closed within the next two years, while plans for a replacement have been shelved.

Manx Care cites a ‘reduced demand for residential care’, a need to review ‘long-term needs of services’ in the north, and spiraling construction costs.

The petitioner wants government to reverse this decision, saying the home offers valuable respite care facilities for its 49 residents.

Concerned residents may be moved to homes outside of Ramsey after Cummal Mooar's closure, Vicki Hewison asks: 'Why should the elderly who have paid their dues be treated in such a disgusting way?'.

The petition has been signed by several hundred people in under twelve hours.

You can find the petition here.

Manx Radio has invited Manx Care to put forward a spokesperson for comment - it has declined to do so.
