Occupants of vehicle 'continuing to actively avoid police'

Officers believe they're contained in The Sloc search area

Police say they’re searching for the occupants of a vehicle which they tried to stop in the south of the Island in the early hours of this morning.

It drove away from officers, in the area of The Sloc, just after midnight (26 October).

The vehicle was found abandoned a short time later – it had not been involved in a collision.

A road closure was put in place to contain the area whilst officers tried to locate the people who’d been inside.

The Isle of Man Constabulary says it ‘strongly’ believes they are still in that location contained by the road closure.

The occupants are believed to be uninjured and instead are continuing to actively avoid the police.

In a statement from the constabulary it adds: 'We will continue to hold the road closure in place until the occupants of the vehicle are located.

'We apologise for any inconvenience to the public and would ask that the public still avoid the area.

'We would encourage the public not to attend this area to help with the search as we have the appropriate trained officers working to locate these persons.

'We can confirm there is no risk to the public and would again encourage the public not to speculate.'

The road remains closed until further notice.
