Manx Horse Council confident recent case has been contained
There's growing confidence that the outbreak of the equine disease Strangles on the Island has been contained.
News that an animal had contracted the condition broke earlier this month, but as of yesterday no further cases of the infection had been reported.
It's a highly contagious bacterial infection of the upper respiratory tract that affects horses and other equines.
Chairman of the Manx Horse Council, Ray Cox, says the equine community on the Island will remain on a watching brief for another week, before they can be fully confident it was just an isolated case.
Strangles is not a notifiable disease, but given its ability to spread rapidly, owners are urged to report suspected outbreaks.
