New skate park for youngsters in Laxey opening on Saturday

Commissioners say delays were due to Covid and floods

A new skatepark is joining the Glen Road recreation area in Laxey this weekend.

An official open day will take place on 9 September which will see two skate groups  providing lessons and entertainment for visitors.

The development was delayed by Covid restrictions and the ongoing flood prevention works, but Garff Commissioners says it is 'very excited' about providing the new facility for Laxey’s young people.

Commissioner Melanie Christian says the skatepark has been made from stainless steel and should 'withstand' whatever weather is thrown at it.

Local Democracy Reporter Emma Draper has been speaking to her:

It's costing the local authority just under £100,000 for the modular skate units, concrete platform and fencing and is being funded by a Treasury approved government loan.
