More than 12,300 patients on hospital waiting lists

Figures reveal ophthalmology has largest list

More than 12,300 people were on waiting lists for a first appointment across all departments at Noble's Hospital on 1 September.

A breakdown of figures has been revealed and shows those waiting for first appointments after an urgent referral stands at more than 2,500 people.

Those awaiting an appointment following a routine referral sits at 9,700.

Ophthalmology has the largest number with 2,764.

Trauma & orthopaedics, ENT (ear, nose, throat) and oral surgery all have waiting lists with more than 1,000 patients.

Breast surgery has the fewest patients on waiting lists with 15 people; five of which are awaiting an appointment following an urgent six-week referral.

Manx Care is carrying out a 'data validation process', whereby duplicate entries and administrative errors are removed.

Letters to patients on outpatient waiting lists asked if they wished to remain on the list.

This process removed 2,181 patients.

The health minister says "continued work to reduce waiting lists across a number of specialities continues".
