May sentence for man who was 'quick to resort to violence'

24-year-old was disorderly on licensed premises

A Douglas man will be sentenced later this year after admitting disorderly behaviour on a licensed premises.

Brian Graham Lowther, of Heather Crescent, got into an altercation with staff at 1886 Bar and Grill on Regent Street on 17 March.

The 24-year-old got involved when he witnessed another family being asked to leave the premises at around 6:45pm.

He was arrested around two hours later, on Loch Promenade, after a police chase.

At Douglas Courthouse Lowther told Magistrates he felt the family being ejected had 'done nothing wrong'.

But the court heard he'd been 'quick to resort to violence' with a staff member describing the incident as the 'worst behaviour he’d had to deal with whilst working at 1886'.

A social enquiry report has been requested before he next appears on 14 May – he’s been bailed until that date.

UPDATE - 14 MAY: Mr Lowther will be sentenced later this month after his case was adjourned for two weeks.

At Douglas Courthouse today (14 May) Deputy High Bailiff Rachael Braidwood determined CCTV evidence needs to be reviewed ahead of sentencing.

Lowther will next appear on 28 May; he's been bailed until that date.
