Major international chess tournament begins on Isle of Man

The fourth ranked player in the world is among the grandmasters competing

The start of a major international chess tournament is set to get underway, which is the first time the Isle of Man has been chosen by the world governing body to host it.

It'll continue over an 11-day period at the Villa Gaiety.

Among those competing include some of the strongest men and women grandmasters on the planet, hoping to secure some of the $600,000 prize pool.

Manx Radio's Christian Jones caught up with the Chair of the Isle of Man Chess Association Howard Dobson, who agrees this is a big deal:
