'Know Your Limits' over MGP urge police

Mountain Road remains two-way for duration of event

Police are urging people to ‘know your limits’ as the Manx Grand Prix gets underway on the Isle of Man.

2023 marks the centenary of the road racing event.

Roads around the Snaefell Mountain Course, in particular, are expected to get busy this week as visiting race fans merge with Island residents going about their daily business.

It’s just three months since thousands of people were welcomed for the TT – and whilst visitor numbers don’t match up to those recorded each June they do pose additional challenges.

Sergeant Michael Taylor is in charge of the Roads Policing Unit:

Unlike TT the Mountain Road will remain two-way for the duration of the Manx Grand Prix period – cycling on it remains prohibited.

Temporary speed limits have been brought in on lower parts of the course and on the Laxey Coast Road.

The Isle of Man Constabulary says it will use the MGP as an opportunity to build community relationships.

Sergeant Taylor told Manx Radio discretion during any event like this is key:
