IoM Airport remains under CAA enforcement notice

Update in July confirms positive progress has been made in the last year

The Isle of Man Airport remains under an enforcement notice from the Island's aviation regulator despite making positive progress over the last year.

The Department of Infrastructure has confirmed Ronaldsway was placed 'on notice' by the Isle of Man Civil Aviation Administration last July.

Details published in a Tynwald written answer reveal the CAA first put the airport under special attention in December 2019 after routine audits of air traffic services and aerodrome operations raised a number of findings.

This status was broadened to 'on notice' last summer due to historical issues still requiring resolution.

It adds that when the new airport director was appointed last year, he was required to provide an action plan to address points raised by these audits, as well as any wider issues he felt were necessary.

An update from the CAA last month confirmed there has been progress over the last year, including putting in place an appropriate action plan to address the issues raised.

Many of these actions have since been completed, with others planned, according to the DoI's response.

It states the airport is now working to address findings from an audit of its safety management system in July 2021, while management turnover is no longer considered an issue.

While the CAA says a significant corner has been turned, the airport remains on notice and will next be reviewed in December.

The question was asked by Arbory, Castletown and Malew MHK Tim Glover who has declined an opportunity to comment further.

The Department of Infrastructure has also told Manx Radio it has nothing further to add at this time.
