Inflation up to 1% last month

Transport and recreation costs rise

The annual inflation rate increased to 1% last month (Nov) as measured by the CPI, up from 0.9% in October.

The Treasury says the upward trend has been caused by rising prices within transport - due to increases in the cost of petrol prices which went up 7.6% over the last 12 months - and rising air fare prices for those travelling during the Christmas and New Year period.

Goods and services within the recreation sector such as pet insurance, children's toys and satellite subscriptions have also increased over the last year.

Items which have seen a decrease over the 12 months to November include Gas - down 7%, oils and fats down 10.5% and soft drinks down 6.3%, although the national drink of tea has seen 11.6% increase.

However you can console yourself with more cakes and biscuits, as they've dropped in price by 6.4%.
