How should nursing and residential care be paid for?

DHSC wants your views on how to create a 'fairer' system

Government's looking for your views on changes it wants to make to the way nursing, residential and home care is paid for on the Island.

It's after Tynwald approved the review in July.

There are two models being looked at by the Department of Health and Social Care.

One would see the state pay for all care - the other would be means tested with caps in place for how much would be spent by an individual.

A public consultation has now been launched.

There will also be a number of face-to-face drop-in sessions at town halls, and libraries, to explain the proposals in more detail.

They include:

  • Monday, 20 November at 2pm - Public drop-in for people with sight loss or visually impaired at Sight Matters
  • Tuesday, 21 November at 10:30am–12:30pm at Ramsey Town Hall and Library Town Hall
  • Thursday, 23 November at 12-2pm at Southern Befrienders Reayrt-y-Chrink, Port Erin
  • Friday, 24 November at 11am-1pm Family Library Noble's Hall, Douglas
  • Monday, 27 November at 10.30am at Douglas Town Hall 
  • Thursday, 30 November at 10am-2pm at Port St Mary Commissioners Office
  • Monday, 4 December at 10am Peel Ward Library
  • Tuesday, 5 December at 4-6.30pm Laxey – Cooil Roi Lounge
  • Thursday, 7 December at 4-6pm Onchan Library
